A Note from Longview Road Books founder Joe Zentis . . .
Yes, you CAN get published . . . but the publication of a book is an expensive and financially risky process.
So the question is . . . Who is going to pay publication costs and take the risk?
In traditional publishing, the publishing company does. They pay the author for the rights to publish, then transform the manuscript into a book, and perhaps distribute it through bookstores nationwide.
Sounds good, doesn't it?
Unfortunately, for a new and/or unknown author, getting published by a traditional publisher is as probable as winning the Pike's Peak International Hill Climb in a child's pedal car. Publishers are interested primarily in profits, so they look for books that are likely to sell hot off the press. The most powerful selling tool is the author's name.
Where does that leave you?
Far down a very steep hill.
But if you're serious about getting your book published, you can plunge into the world known as self-publishing, or subsidy publishing, where you bear all or part of the publication costs.Myriad online publishers are more than willing to publish your book as long as you're willing to pay them.
You can find them in literally a fraction of a second. I just googled "subsidy publishing," which produced 1,830,000 results in 0.18 seconds. "Self publishing" is even better: 3,250,000 results in 0.23 seconds.
Don't we live in a splendid world?
Well, sort of. There are many legitimate publishers among them, but there are also many anonymous, greedy people who will make you sorry you ever wrote a book.
How can you know which is which? Only by getting to know them first, then by working with them in a one-on-one collaboration committed to the achievement of your goals.
With so many options available, you'll need lots of luck to find one who will do that.
